Origin & History

According to Greek mythology, the plant was first discovered by the sun god Apollo, who gave it to Aesculapius, the god of medicine. In the 15th and 16th centuries, scholars believed it capable of improving the memory. The dried leaves are used in herbal medicine and these are gathered at the time of flowering in late spring and early summer.

The lily of the valley signifies the return of happiness. Legend tells of the affection of a lily of the valley for a nightingale that did not come back to the woods until the flower bloomed in May.
